DiS podcast: Q&A Edition
And with the crash of a wave, the Drowned in Sound podcast is back!
To mark 24 years of DiS, I asked for your questions and boy did you deliver. From what I'd do if I brought back MySpace to why certain acts didn't get massive, how new acts can get coverage and a little bit about where the name Drowned in Sound came from, there was a lot to cover. Did your question make it into this episode?
I sat down for an hour with a cuppa to answer as many Qs as I could. Have split the answers into two parts. The first part is now available on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your pods (handy link to lots of pod providers here). Make sure you're subscribed to get episode 2 of this Q&A over the weekend.
Here are some links related to topics covered in the Q&A in case you'd like more context.
- Listen to: Choose a Bright Morning by Jeniferever on Bandcamp
- Read: Wendy Roby's brilliant review of Plastic Beach by Gorillaz
- Listen to: Mystery Jets featuring Laura Marling
- Read: Mike Diver's 2005 interview with Saul Williams
- Read: DiScover Santigold
Thanks again for all of your questions.
I always enjoy when other pods do these mailbag episodes, so would love to know what you think of this Q&A format and if it's something you'd like me to do again. Feel free to send over some Qs if you're keen for another one - especially anything related to the recent newsletters on the crisis in live music, record deals, etc.
Bye for now
Sean
p.s. You may have noticed that the podcast took an extended break earlier this year. For context, I had flu for a few weeks, then went on tour for a bit and was working on election campaigns for StopTheTories.vote. Rather than burn myself out trying to keep up with a weekly podcast alongside artist management, lecturing and consultancy work, I decided to pause for a while. Since this is a solo project, it’s worth noting that most podcasts have several people involved in research, production, and promotion. Thank you for your patience - I’ve got a bunch of episodes ready to share over the coming days and weeks, leading up to a big reveal for 2025.
